Happy Birthday!

Since its Feb. 25, it seems appropriate to blog about Jan. 25.  Our sweet little Cupcake was born at 4:12 PM.  She was 2 ounces bigger than Benny at birth---7 lb 11 oz.  We named her Claire Capri.

The birth story?  Here goes...

On Friday morning, I had an appointment with my midwife.  Cupcake still seemed to be pretty comfy in there :)  However, by the afternoon, I was having more contractions than I had ever had (although not at regular intervals.)  I had a bad cold all week and hadn't been getting much rest because I was so congested.  I admit.  I started getting nervous.  I couldn't sleep because I knew I was having the contractions, and I was just plain exhausted and miserable from the cold.  So, we headed to the hospital at about 2:30 AM.  I'm sure this was earlier than I would have went to the hospital if I hadn't been sick.  But, I felt more relaxed being there and was able to get a little rest during the night.  In the morning, they started me on pitocin to speed things up.  All went quite well, and our sweet baby girl was born at 4:12.   I really like the midwife I see.  She was able to be there for a large part of the morning with me.  Also, we had the same nurse Heather who had delivered Benny too.  She is young and has 2 little boys of her own.  I was quite happy that she got to be with me the whole day too.

Proud daddy.

Future godmother!

Getting ready to go home.

Not impressed with her first time being strapped into the car seat.

Benny was pleased with the Welcome Home brownies.

A few days later, Faith came to visit.

Callie and Claire share a birthday!

Uncle Chris

Benny loves to give his sister kisses.

Everyone always asks how you pick your baby's name.  We just liked the name Claire.  In retrospect, I learned that my great grandmother's name was Clara.  Not planned, but a nice coincidence.  The name Capri came from a Colbie Callait song I really like.  Here is a link to the song.

Horses

We have great neighbors.  They are very kind, sweet, and love Benny.  They own a farm not too far away from us as well where they have 7 horses.  We went with them to the barn in early January so Benny could see the horses.  In typical Benny fashion, he wasn't scared of the horses one bit.  Let me love on the horses, kiss them, hug them, and ride them.  No fear.  Kevin walked on one side of the horse and the neighbor's high school aged daughter walked on the other side to make sure Benny wouldn't fall off.  The faster, the better.  He had a blast!

Thanks Gayla and Stormy!!!!
